Zizzi, Manchester

Painting by the till

A Friday night after a long week in and out the office, I was looking for a relaxed easy going place to eat.

Zizzi was nice and warm and the lighting was slightly dimmed making the atmosphere relaxed and homely.

Fritto Misto - starter

STARTER - Fritto Misto £14.45 / 2 sharing

A mix of fried wonders including calamari, whitebait, zucchini bite and vegetables ribbons, all lightly fried and served with two delicious dips.

A great sharing starter with an excellent mix of items, the whitebait was amazing with any of the two dips. I felt the other items were a bit too oily for me, I've have similar items and its been much crunchier. The flavours were good but next I will try something different.

Seabass Peperonata
Seabass Peperonata Main Plate
Seabass Peperonata 1

MAIN - Seabass Peperonata £15.50

The seabass was pan fried and served with a peppers and olive ragu and on the side garlic sautéed sprouting broccoli and cavolo nero (a type of cabbage)

The plate looked and smelled super, the seabass fell apart beautifully and was rich in flavour. The ragu worked very well with the plate and had a thick consistency which I really liked. Similar to the starter I felt that the seabass, both fillets were too oily, perhaps not fried in oil that was hot enough.

As a plate I would recommend this dish as the flavours were rich and I could taste them individually and together.

Risotto Pesce Plate

Risotto Pesce

MAIN - Risotto Pesce £12.95

Made with mix of seafoods including king prawns, mussels and squid rings in a tomato and white wine sauce.

Cooked to perfection, the texture was just right. The only thing that I think let the dish down was in my opinion I think that it was slightly salty that I expected and have experienced before, but still an excellent dish.

Lemon Curd Cheesecake

DESSERT - Lemon Curd Cheesecake  £5.95

A very lemony flavoured cheesecake with a strawberry coulis and a raspberry snap.

The strawberry coulis was like an Ibiza party in my mouth. I liked the top half of the cheesecake as it had the right amount of lemon flavour, the bottom half of it had far too much lemon flavour for me. So I was a bit disappointed but the thats the cheesecake I choose.

REVIEW of Zizzi (Kings Street)

Service gets a 8 from me - the waiter was new and funny, different waiters asked how the meal was.

Food gets a 6 from me - Well presented  and full of flavours but was too oily for me.

Atmosphere gets an 8 from me - nice and warm and great lighting plenty of space in the booths.

Overall 7.3/10 - I'd go again as it was a relaxed atmosphere and the food had good flavours.
