We were looking for a car park all over the city and ended up in China Town. A totally unplanned meal was about to happen.
Little Yang Sing was a very nice and welcoming restaurant with a lively atmosphere, it's located just off the main square in China Town in Manchester.
We were greeted on arriving with a smile and sat down straight away. The tables seemed closed together but that was only in the middle section.
STARTER - Steamed Vegetarian Dumpling in Black Pepper Sauce (3) £4.50
These came out nice and soft and bustling with flavour. The outer part of the dumpling was just perfect, not tough or stringy. The filling was tasty and the black pepper sauce was a great dip, they worked well together and gave that extra kick of flavour.
I would recommend this starter every time, just the right portion size.
MAIN - Chilli Spicy Sichuan King Prawn £11.50
King Prawn fried with Sichuan dried chillies and sliced onions and peppers.
This was a colourful plate and when I saw the chillies I originally thought it was going to blow my mouth open. My initial spoons were taken slowly and hesitantly, then I realised that it was not super HOT but very tasty with a bit of a kick. I really enjoyed this dish. The King Prawns were big and juicy, I was happy.
I would have this again with no hesitation, a really well presented dish with a great punchiness to keep the taste buds working.
DESSERT - Blueberry Cheesecake with Pistachio Ice Cream Menu £6.45
It was presented very professionally and I was impressed at the little umbrella.
The ice cream tasted of pistachio, however I was left feeling the cheesecake was little plain and the base was tough, it reminded me of an episode of the British bake off that made rock cake and it was solid and hard
REVIEW OF LITTLE YANG SING
A nice Chinese restaurant in China Town in Manchester around the main square.
Service gets a 6 from me - a bit better than standard. I didn't feel the service was very personable or genuine.
Food gets a 8 from me - I really enjoyed the starter and main but dessert was too plain.
Atmosphere gets a 6 from me - although it was welcoming I don't want to sit back to back to another table and clash chairs.
Overall 6.6/10 - better than average, the food was good but let down by the others parts.
